MFK Ružomberok is a Slovak football club founded in 1906 under the Hungarian name Rózsahegyi Sport Club, reflecting the town's status at the time as part of the Kingdom of Hungary within the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. The club, nicknamed Ruža (The Rose) — a reference both to the flower featured in the club crest and to the Hungarian name for the town — traditionally played in white, yellow and red, colours taken from the flag of Ružomberok, before the club's sponsor, paper manufacturer Mondi Business Paper SCP, introduced new colours in 2005: orange, black and white.

For most of its history, the club competed in the lower divisions, gaining promotion to the Slovak Second Division for the first time only in 1993, and to the top flight four years later, in 1997. The club's trophy cabinet, however, remained empty until its centenary year in 2006, when Ružomberok won both the Slovak championship and the Slovak Cup in the same historic season, in no small part thanks to 21 goals from the league's joint top scorer, Erik Jendrišek.

The double triumph earned the team its debut in the UEFA Champions League, in which Ružomberok faced Russian champions CSKA Moscow in the second qualifying round, losing the two-legged tie 0–5 without scoring. The club has nevertheless remained a regular participant in European competition, with one of its more memorable episodes coming in a Europa League qualifying tie, in which Ružomberok, despite being clear underdogs, eliminated England's Everton thanks to two goals scored in the final twelve minutes of the match.

The team plays its home matches at Štadión pod Čebraťom, opened in 1955 and situated at the foot of the hill from which it takes its name. Although the venue's current capacity of just under 4,900 is considerably more modest than during the club's heyday, when the stadium could hold up to 20,000 spectators, Ružomberok remains a permanent fixture of the Slovak top flight, symbolising the enduring presence of smaller footballing centres in the country's league landscape.
